| OLED LIFETIME |
| |
Lifetime is one of the key performance parameters of OLEDs (Organic Light Emitting Diodes). It is commonly defined as the time for the luminance to decrease to half of its initial value. However, this simple definitien might not be suited for specifying lifetime for the broad variety of applications of OLED displays and lighting elements. In a more general context, lifetime may be defined as the loss of functionality of the device. Depending on the specific application, device functionality is determined by many more factors.
FOR EXAMPLE:
- Changes of emission color
- Changes in emission uniformity
- Formation of black spots
- Pixel failure in displays
- Increase of temperature
- Changes in operating voltage
ALL OF THESE DIFFERENT ASPECTS OF OLED PERFORMANCE AND CONSEQUENTLY OLED LIFETIME, ARE INFLUENCED BY VARIOUS OPERATION PARAMETERS, INCLUDING:
- Luminance
- Environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, UV, etc.)
- Mode of operation (constant, pulsed, etc.)
- OLED materials
- Device structure
- Device efficiency
- Device area
A state-of-the-art OLED lifetime test system must, therefore, have the capability to monitor more OLED performance parameters and not only luminance. Furthermore, the system must allow for maximum flexibility regarding operation parameters and operation conditions, to be suited for the customers advancing lifetime testing needs.
